Making a will

Making a will is a very important step in your life as it allows you to decide to whom your property and possessions will go and who will manage this process for you following your death. It may also ensure that your property reaches your intended beneficiaries rather than being taken by the tax authorities.

If you do not make a will, everything you leave will be divided between your next of kin according to fixed rules laid down by Parliament. Certain of your relatives, such as a husband or wife or children will qualify as next of kin, but other individuals in your life, such as lifetime partners or friends will not.

Making a will allows you to choose the people you know and trust to be appointed as the personal representatives who will take charge of your assets and implement your wishes after your demise. Alternatively, our partners are happy to be appointed to this role where you would prefer to have independent professionals administering your estate for you.

Wills are also important for parents with children. In the event of the untimely death of parents a will can provide for the appointment of guardians to look after your children and also deal with funeral wishes.

Shaw Marsden is happy to draw up a will for you or to alter an existing will where your circumstances have changed or to provide inheritance tax advice in conjunction with the preparation of your will. Our charges are likely to be small when set against the peace of mind you will have.

Please either contact us by calling us on 01823 - 330944 or by completing an initial enquiry.
